About: The Clothes & LACBC
The Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition, a membership based bicycle advocacy organization working county-wide covering over 88 cities and unincorporated areas, has put together a limited edition order of cycling clothing since 2009. With each year the demand for these kits has increased, and finally in 2013 we put together a site to allow anyone to place an order of their own without taking any of the valuable time of our staff (who are otherwise busy fulfilling and expanding upon the three main functions of the LACBC – advocacy, education, and events).
We collected orders and sent them along to our manufacturer, but in the end we still took a hit on our staff time and were not able to have our kits be a source of fundraising to support the organization. The order system was solid, however we faced a familiar situation: there was a demand for the kits, but often not enough to justify a re-order when our manufacturer had high minimum quantity requirements.
Now, finally, in 2014 we’re back with a new manufacturer, a new system for ordering, and a system that allows us to continue what we do and allows you to support us in one fluid motion. For 2014 we are keeping our highly sought design from 2013 for one last year. In 2015 there will be a new design.
The limited edition LACBC Kit can be available for purchase by anyone in the world.
Yes, even if you’re in Australia or Uruguay, you too can wear a high quality, super comfortable, well designed kit that will be undoubtedly unique.
The sales of the clothing (or kits as they might be called) serve several purposes: a small stream of fundraising, getting LACBC “out there” so anyone can show their pride and support for the excellent work LACBC does, and just having some high quality clothes to wear when we manage to get a ride in. While the quality of the products in this order are particularly high, we’ve decided to keep the costs very low in order to encourage sales. There is a small amount of fundraising benefit to the organization with each product’s pricing, which is really great, but if you feel you want to give more please visit our main website at www.la-bike.org where you can become a member or make a donation. Just like these clothes, memberships are not necessarily limited to those in LA County – we love the solidarity and support of all cyclists of all types anywhere in the world.
Please keep in mind the following:
The Order Window closes on July 5th, 2014, deliveries will be to your door by the end of the month!

Ciclovías started in Bogotá, Colombia, over thirty years ago as a response to the congestion and pollution of city streets. Now they happen throughout Latin America and the United States.
Connecting communities and giving people a break from the stress of car traffic, the health benefits are immense. Ciclovías bring families outside of their homes to enjoy the streets, our largest public space. In Los Angeles we need CicLAvia more than ever. Our streets are congested with traffic, our air is polluted with toxic fumes, our children suffer from obesity and other health conditions caused by the scarcity of public space and safe, healthy transportation options. CicLAvia creates a temporary park for free, simply by removing cars from city streets. It creates a network of connections between our neighborhoods and businesses and parks with corridors filled with fun.
With five hugely successful CicLAvias under our belt, we are currently preparing for the next round of CicLAvia events in 2013. We can’t wait to see you at CicLAvia!

Questions & Answers
- I didn’t see socks. Are there socks? Do they match?
Yes, there are socks. Yes, they do match. They are produced by Capo and are available for sale at the events where we are present with a table or booth. To find out where we’ll be next, check out our website or sign up for our newsletter.
- Why are the pictures on the products just renderings? Why didn’t you photograph the real thing?
This is what is known as a group order for custom products, hence the products will be produced only to the quantities as described by the total sales when the order window closes. In other words, the images are very accurate renderings as to what you’ll be getting in your hands, and you’ll just have to trust us, Jakroo, and Capo that you will be over-the-moon in happiness once you’re out there riding in this kit.
- The photos on this site have the Capo jersey, is this one any different?
In terms of visual design, there is no difference between the Capo-edition of the jersey (2013) and the Jakroo-edition (2014+) except for the vest. In the Capo-edition, the vest had a black back panel, and the Jakroo version has the white back-panel at center. Those of you who bought the original version, sometimes called “the reveal,” consider yourselves the owners of some exclusive stuff.
- So why the switch to Jakroo?
We really enjoyed working with Capo, but we needed to find a manufacturer that was a better fit for our unique needs. With Jakroo we managed to find a sublime balance between cost, quality of product, efficiency, and a better relationship. Now we are able to offer sales 24/7/365 on a rolling order basis, with orders being delivered directly to the purchaser. This saves us the time of compiling orders, checking for mistakes, receiving the order, sorting and shipping to each individual. We want to spend our valuable time fulfilling our organization’s mission and vision. The clothes are a way that we can help promote the organization and have some fundraising, however it should not get in the way of the monumental task in getting LA County to be a healthy, safe and fun place to ride a bicycle.
- Where is this manufactured?
Jakroo is based in Northern California with manufacturing done in their own facilities in Beijing. Yes, there is that criticism to keep it local: we tried, we really did. Unfortunately our circumstances, requirements, and the services offered by Jakroo were too outstanding to pass up. We did our homework: a year’s worth of research on multiple manufacturers, testing the products, interviewing, and digging into the manufacturing facilities for each company lead us to Jakroo. No, they are not made in a sweatshop: our close contact in Beijing has verified that the facilities are among the best around, with employees having full breaks, paid vacations, day care for children, safe work environments, and a clean record.
- I’m local, is there any chance I could save on shipping and pick up my order?
Please understand that we tried this before and unfortunately it doesn’t always turn out the best. Some folks from our March 2013 order have STILL not picked up their orders from us and that takes some office space when we’re already in tight confines. It turns out that working with Jakroo had another benefit: shipping is a scaling flat-fee regardless of destination, with guaranteed delivery date.
- What sort of sorcery is this?
Some kinda magic driven out of a staff and board that truly, truly love to ride all types of bicycles everywhere.
- I thought the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition is only for commuters.
That wasn’t a question, but we’ll answer it anyway: the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition is an advocacy organization that represents all cyclists, of all interests and abilities, throughout Los Angeles County. That means everyone from commuters to former Pros that placed in the top ten at Paris-Roubaix, state and national champion mountain bike racers, casual riders, children, people who are just starting out riding, and people who rely on bicycles as their sole method of transportation. Yes, everyone. We’re all in this together and we thrive upon the solidarity that all cyclists share.
- Is there an LACBC Race Team?
Yes and no. There is no official team in the eyes of the USA Cycling (USAC), as there is no current license. However there are a few Board, Staff and Volunteers that have used the kits in races, and occasionally held “team training rides” that average 200 miles and more than ten thousand feet in climbing. Yes, we really love bicycles, riding, and advocacy. So if you want to race in LACBC’s name, you can, however we take no responsibility for your results or lack thereof as we are not an official team. In the USAC’s eyes you will be ‘unattached’ however we guarantee you’ll have the best darn looking kit out there in the peloton.
- I don’t live in LA County, can I still where the kit?
Definitely. Not only will you be wearing a unique, well designed kit that isn’t tied to a local team, you will be representing your support for cycling advocacy.
- How many phone numbers can I expect, on average, to find in my back pockets after a ride?
Typically you should average 3 phone numbers per ten kilometers or six miles. Whether you noticed that a small slip of paper with a phone number on it was tossed in your general direction is another matter entirely.
- I really appreciate everything that LACBC does and would like to help support the organization further.
Check out everything we’re up to over at www.la-bike.org and please consider making a donation or becoming a member! By the way, that wasn’t a question, but just a great statement.
- Designs? Don’t you mean “colorway”?
Yes. Sure. Whatever.
- I really wanted the kit design from 2011-2012, the one with the white stripes, will you offer it again?
We apologize, no. With everything, our main focus as an organization is advocacy, education, and events to foster bicycling in Los Angeles County. Our clothing orders are limited edition, and even on the rare occasion that there is a second order from overwhelming demand, the LACBC Kit is truly a limited edition piece. The remaining copies have all been framed and signed by the designer, and they are now in the private storage archives of Eli Broad.
- I’ve got a Q that isn’t F.A. – what should I do?
You could either encourage many people to ask the same question to us…
~ or ~
…Simply contact us. Drop us a line, e-mail us, say hi to us as you find out that the person waiting at that long redlight on the bicycle is an LACBC Staff, Board member, or volunteer. We’ll be happy to help out your Q, even if it isn’t an F.A. We’re nice, we don’t bite.
